Self-Love Isn't Selfish (Here's Why)

Someone once told you that good moms sacrifice everything.

That putting yourself first is selfish. That you should give until you're empty.

I'm here to gently say: that's a lie.

The Empty Cup Problem

You've heard "you can't pour from an empty cup."

It's cliché because it's true.

When you're depleted, everyone gets the worst version of you. Not because you're a bad mom, but because you're human.

Why Self-Care Matters

Taking care of yourself:

  • Regulates your nervous system (calmer mom = calmer kids)
  • Models healthy boundaries (they're watching you)
  • Gives you capacity to give more (not less)

Self-care isn't the opposite of good parenting. It's the foundation of it.

What Self-Care Actually Looks Like

It's not always spa days and massages (though those are nice).

Real self-care can be:

  • Going to bed early
  • Saying no to something
  • Eating when you're hungry
  • Peeing alone (ambitious, I know)

The Guilt Cycle

Moms feel guilty about rest.

Then they burn out.

Then they feel guilty about burning out.

Break the cycle. Rest isn't earned. It's necessary.

A Tiny Start

Today, do ONE thing just for you.

Five minutes of quiet. A warm drink. Texting a friend. Stepping outside alone.

Not to be productive. Just to exist as a person who has needs.

Because you do.
