Be Kind to Yourself First

We've been talking about kindness all week.

Kindness to others. Kindness to siblings. Kindness to strangers.

But what about kindness to YOU?

The Self-Kindness Gap

Most moms are experts at giving kindness.

And terrible at receiving it—especially from themselves.

The inner voice says: "I should do better. I'm not enough. Other moms have it together."

That voice isn't kind. And it isn't true.

Modeling for Your Kids

Here's the thing:

Kids learn self-talk from watching you.

If you're endlessly critical of yourself, they'll learn to be critical of themselves too.

Self-kindness isn't selfish. It's teaching by example.

What Self-Kindness Looks Like

  • Forgiving yourself for losing your temper
  • Resting without guilt
  • Speaking to yourself like you'd speak to a friend
  • Celebrating small wins
  • Accepting "good enough"

The Practice

Try this today:

When the harsh inner voice appears, pause.

Ask: "Would I say this to my best friend?"

If not, find what you WOULD say. And say that instead.

The Permission

You're allowed to be kind to you.

You're allowed to have needs.

You're allowed to be a work in progress.

Kindness week isn't complete without this reminder:

You deserve the same kindness you give everyone else.
