Indoor Obstacle Course in 5 Minutes

Monday, April 6, 2026

They're bouncing off the walls.

You can't go outside.

Here's your solution:

Indoor obstacle course.

The 5-Minute Setup

Use what you have:

  • Couch cushions = stepping stones
  • Pillows = hurdles to jump over
  • Chairs = crawl tunnel
  • Tape on floor = balance beam
  • Laundry basket = target for ball toss

That's a full course.

The Rules

  1. Complete the course
  2. Time each round
  3. Try to beat your time
  4. Don't wake the baby (if applicable)

Why This Works

Kids need:

  • Physical challenge
  • Clear goals
  • A sense of achievement

Obstacle courses provide all three.

Meanwhile, you're standing there timing them. Low effort, high reward.

Variations

Backwards — Run it in reverse

Blindfolded — Guide them verbally (be careful!)

Animal style — Only crawling, hopping, or slithering

Racing — Siblings compete against each other

The Energy Burn

A good 15 minutes of this burns REAL energy.

Post-obstacle course kids are calmer kids.

Worth the 5 minutes of setup? Absolutely.
